Special Guest Presenter: Amiria-Jade Art - Sat 28 June
Kete Kupenga: Māori Fishnet weaving using Harakeke
Amiria-Jade is a Contemporary fibre artist who has deepened her connection to her Māori heritage through the traditional art of raranga (Māori weaving). She credits expert tutors for igniting her passion and skill in raranga, which she pursued diligently to become a proficient kaiwhatu (weaver). She proudly traces her ancestry to Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungunu and Ngāi Tahu.
Kete Kupenga:
Te Kupenga means "net" used with the purposed of catching a bounty of kai (food) for the Iwi (tribe). The philosophy behind this weave is to keep what is needed and allow what is not required to pass through the gaps.
Join Amiria-Jade in this very special workshop as she shares this beautiful, intricate cultural weave with us. This one is for those of you who are ready for a more advanced workshop.
